Homecomings

Lockhart Freewill is Sept. 8; Lockhart First Baptist, Wilksburg Baptist, and Wesley Chapel are the 15th of September; and I believe I overheard that the Montgomery reunion is the 8th at Wesley Chapel Methodist and the Webber reunion is the 22nd.

Fundraiser

Saturday, Sept. 7, Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, at 4619 Mt. Pleasant Church Road, Chester will be having a fundraiser, it will start at 8 a.m., and will include a yard sale, bake sale, chicken stew, hot dogs, and a silent auction. There will be music and singing also. I know a lot of Lockhart people used to go over there for their Christmas sales, so I know you’ll enjoy this day also.

Sue Smith Witherspoon

You know that once in awhile I will receive calls from out of state and sometimes out of the country. So I received one from Mayville, Michigan the other day. Sue Smith Witherspoon called to say she had read my article on line. She was raised in No Man’s Land, and told me she remembered Sue Black. She had a brother, Jim Smith, and sister, Betty, and others but I didn’t write everyone down.

Do any of you remember her? She celebrated her 50th anniversary on Aug. 17, and has been gone from here for 49 years. It would be nice of some of you to drop her a card: Jim and Sue Smith Witherspoon, 2245 W. Snover, Mayville Michigan, 48744. I know how I would feel if I heard from some of my old classmates or neighbors. Warm and fuzzy.

Remember In Prayer

Well Margaret M. gave us quite a scare Labor Day. She was unresponsive most of the day, but sometime after 4 p.m., she decided to join the world again, and we all had a very pleasant visit at Wallace Thompson Hospital. She’s back at Ellen Sager now. She still needs your prayers.

Also prayers for Judy Sprouse, at Oakmont, and Buster Dabbs, Lewis Clark, Bill McSwain, Heather Plemmons, Jaimie and Sue Palmer, and Dean O’Dell.

Eight Days A Week

Thank You Barry for helping me with my yard. I need eight days in the week to keep up with all the things I need to do to save money. Like washing and cleaning out two cars and cutting and weedeating the yard and hill that is supposed to be a back yard.

So the other day I washed all the clothes and all the beddings, and two cars but only had time to clean out one car that I had planned plus cut the yard, clean a bathroom and living room. So about the time I’m sitting on the ground cleaning tires, Gina comes out to see what I’m doing. So she helped clean windows. We were finally hungry so we quit for the day, it was about 6 p.m. or 7 p.m., who counts when you’re having this much fun. Now this was my day off. Well one car will have to wait for the inside for my next day off, Monday.

Retiring

Gonzalee is hoping to retire from the school system around Sept. 12, and he said he hoped to be married at that time, also. We wish him all the best, for his new life.

Reminder

Bridge meeting on Friday, Sept. 18 at 5 p.m. at the Baptist Fellowship Building, which used to be the Armory, behind the Hot Spot. It’s very important for everyone to show up even if you don’t live in Lockhart, but travel through, or come to fish. We need your output to save the Canal Bridge to fish off.

Trip To Charleston

I haven’t seen Ailene to find out how her trip to Charleston this last weekend went, but she was with Cheryl so I’m sure she was happy.

Longevity

I just read this in a magazine: That pear shaped women may live longer than your apple-shaped pals. A recent study found that ladies with small waists and ample rears (think J.Lo, Beyonce, Kim Kardashian) may live up to a decade longer than those who carry their weight around their midsections. Oh well!!

Birthdays

Paige Brock had a birthday on Sept. 2, Happy Belated. Rick McCloud has one on the 6th. The 8th is Kristy Austin. Brad Jennings, the 9th. Happy Birthday.

Anniversaries

Happy Anniversary to Jantzen and Lynn Childers on the 7th, along with Tommy and Sara Jane Fowler.

Beginning

AWANA’s will begin on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 5:30 at the Family Life Center.

Humor

One day a man spotted a lamp by the roadside. He picked it up, rubbed it vigorously and a genie appeared.

“I’ll grant you your fondest wish,” the genie said.

The man thought for a moment, then said, “I want a spectacular job — a job that no man has ever succeeded at or has ever attempted to do.”

“Poof!” said the genie. “You’re a housewife.”

Overheard at the Food and Drug Administration: If laughter is the best medicine, shouldn’t we be regulating it?

Then there’s the shop-a-holic whose friend complimented her on her new car.

“Oh thanks,” the woman replied. “I’m getting about 20 malls per gallon!”

OK, so I really didn’t have much news, but hope some it helped. But now I’ll say good night and call sometime with some news or if you want to move to Lockhart, I might be able to help. This is the place for fishermen.

Goodnight. 864-545-6652
