While I was working Friday, my daughter kept calling me wanting to know where certain kitchen items were. She’s bad at using the speaker phone while walking around doing whatever she does, and I really have a hard time understanding what she is saying to me.

Well Friday, I kept thinking she was asking for a pig pan. Finally, I heard a cake pan. Next she wanted to know where the beater was, and I thought what she really wanted was the blender. She told me the day before that she was going to try to make picante sauce, so I knew she wouldn’t need a beater.

When I got home she had baked me a red velvet cake for my birthday, which was Saturday, Aug. 17. She said she thought with all her phone calls I would have known what she was doing.

The mind goes with each birthday, so there is no thinking! She gathered every birthday candle in the house and just about burnt her fingers lighting them.

Before the cake, Mert came in the shop with a gift for me, a beautiful basket with fall flowers, an owl for hanging with a bell on it, and a dish towel and pot holder, all in beautiful fall colors. She never forgets anyone, on occasions. Thank you Mert.

Well, Chuck walks in and sees the card, the look on his face was shear panic, shock! He said, “I forgot your birthday again.” I told him no, it’s tomorrow, Saturday. Well that night, I had to go and let his dog out to potty, while Chuck was at work, and I noticed that he had stopped at the Dollar General after leaving my shop and bought me a card. Yeah! Mert saved his hide!

Saturday, Gina gave me four new books for me to read. Which by now you all know I love to read.

Sunday, Ailene made me Butter Pecan ice cream, for my birthday. Delicious!

Monday, the gang at the town hall had a little party of Pineapple Cake for me, that Ailene baked that morning. We couldn’t get enough, it was scrumptious. I shared cake with Ailene, Brenda, Hugh, Ted, DA, Donnie and Barry. The only one missing was Beverly, who is not feeling too well, and we sure want her to get better real soon, we miss her laughter. We started asking each other who had the next birthday, so we can have cake again, soon.

Wednesday, I received lovely cards from Regina Denton and Mike, Debbie, and Jaxon Parker. Thank you for the wonderful thoughts and words of love.

So you see, this was a wonderful birthday and one I don’t want to forget.

Of course, how can I forget the ones I shared while I was married. Never a card, or a Happy Birthday, just new tires for the car, or battery, etc for the car. Oh well it just what we needed at the time. The new wife got diamonds. But I got the memories.

Anyway, thank you all.

An Active Summer

School started and all the kids that came into the shop said they were real anxious to start school. They said they were really getting bored with staying home. But it looked like, to me they had a pretty active summer.

Most went to the beach for four or five days at least once. Played ball or practiced every day, or had friends staying over every night. Troy Millwood kept busy cutting grass, and from a few of my customers they said he did a great job, they were very well pleased. Then when he finished with the grass he practiced ball.

Remember In Prayer

Let’s pray that Jessica Nicole has her baby this week, she looks miserable, sorry! Chip, who works at the Hot Spot, said it should come Thursday or Friday.

Please pray for my friend, Judy Sprouse, who’s married to Don, not because she’s married to Don, but because she’s in Oakmont for rehab, and is quite ill.

Pray that Margaret Montgomery can get back on her feet, while at rehab at Ellen Sagar. Tug Lee is in rehab at EllenSager also. Pray that Debbie Gibson can finally come home from Ellen Sager also.

Patsy Craig McSwain told me that Bill is at Wallace Thomson, in ICU. Sammy Baines is having to take a few chemo treatments, so put these friends of mine on your prayer list, please.

Mowing The Grass

This week was a lot easier cutting the grass, but I might have put the wheels down too low. Places look a little bare. But if I attempt this every week it should not take a lot of hard work. But of course the ants found my ankles again. I think I’m one big scab.

This week Chase came by and asked if he could help me cut grass, Gina asks me why I keep turning down free help, and I told her that she said we could do it and I’d hate for her to get mad at me for taking free help.

Gina discovered that our sidewalk was a lot wider than it looked. The weed eater has an edger on it, so she tried it on the sidewalk and found out that our old grass cutters had let the grass grow up over the sides of the sidewalk. Now Joey painted it, what he could see, so now we need to paint the rest to match. But Chuck kept asking why our sidewalk was so narrow. Now we know.

Homecoming

The First Baptist Church of Lockhart will be having Homecoming on Sept. 15 this year. This Sunday night should be a lot of fun at the Baptist Church. They are having a bake off for the men.The men are to bring their cakes to church by 4:30 p.m. for the judging. And I guess that will be the dessert to be eaten later that night.

Joke Time

A stark naked woman jumps into a taxi and gives the cabbie an address. The cabbie just looks at her, making no attempt to drive.

“What are you staring at?” the woman asks. “Haven’t you seen a naked woman before?”

“I’m not staring,” he replied.

“Well if you’re not staring, what are you doing?”

“Wondering where you’re keeping the money to pay me.”

When my sister was in high school, she went out with the captain of the chess team. My parents loved him ‘cause they figured any guy who took three hours to make a move was okay.

A couple of dog owners are arguing about whose pet is smarter.

“My dog is so smart,” says the first owner, “that every morning he waits for the paperboy to come around. He tips the kid and then brings the newspaper to me, along with my morning coffee.”

“I know,” says the second owner.

“How do you know?”

“My dog told me.”

Well, maybe I’ll have a busy week and hear lots of news, so I can pass it on to you for next week. Until next week, I’ll say goodnight. It is now 3 am. Call me at 864-545-6652.
