On a sad note, we send our sympathies and best wishes to the families of Shelley Wicker. Shelley was a 26-year-old, who was a well loved, beautiful, intelligent, enthusiastic young lady, with a passion for life and a bright future. Her friends and family showed their support in large numbers at her funeral services. Shelley was the daughter of Sandy Gilliam Tinsley and Bill R.Wicker.
Our sympathies to Mr. William Worthy, another beloved Whitmire resident, who was known for his sweet and kind personality, and Famous Hot Dog Chili recipe at Whitmire’s one time “Y” building.
Our sympathies to the families of Mr. Raymond Reed, a former Whitmire resident, who had a the gift of music and conversation. Mr. Reed was a member of The Reed Brothers vocal group, and a former Choir Director at First Baptist Church. He was married to his late wife Evelyn for 66 years.

Former Whitmire resident and WHS graduate Timothy Lawson Jr. was recently awarded with a “Superior” rating from The South Carolina’s Band Director Association. Tim is the band director at Saluda Middle School and a Newberry College graduate.
Upcoming Local Activities And Events
The Whitmire Economic Development Board’s Health Walk For Fitness is Saturday morning, April 5. Meet at The Whitmire Community Center. Various levels and distances from beginning to advanced walkers. Thank you to the board members for coordinating the successful Day Of Service — Polishing The Pearl on Saturday, March 22.
The members of Cedar Grove A.M.E. Church on Hwy 66, Whitmire, will celebrate 144 years of worship on May 10. Event Coordinator Fannie Hopkins needs past members and deceased members photos, information to add to the program. The event will honor past/deceased members and their families. The Whitmire Jaycees will host their yearly Community Easter Egg Hunt, April 13 at 3 p.m. at the picnic shelter in Heritage Park, The rain make up date will be April 18 on Good Friday at 3 p.m.
The Jaycees are in the planning stages for the “Party In The Pines” annual festival. Vendors and Booth spaces are going fast.
