Again I will apologize for not writing last week. I really thought I’d have the time on Tuesday night but I decided Monday to take my first vacation since moving here. We were having a class reunion and since I’d never been to one and all of you in our area have them all the time, and I get so jealous over them that I decided it was time to do something I’ve always wanted to do.
I rented a little red Fiesta Ford, adorable and so cheap on gas. Called my customers, Tuesday, and left on Wednesday. Thanks to Ray and Stephanie Duncan for taking me to Rock Hill to pick it up. Finally got on the road at 10:30, we had trouble finding how to lock the doors, and keeping the GPS on the dash. Thanks to Barry Canupp for the GPS, without it I’d still be out on the road somewhere lost. By 11 p.m. I was pulling in my uncle’s driveway.
I really don’t have any news of anyone else, since I just got in last night at 7:45, and left Michigan at 6:30. Now if you never had to stop for gas and you have to check out the rest areas I would have been home sooner.
Well for some reason the GPS kept falling down and every time I put it up I had to recalculate and I’m in heavy traffic. It did this five times, I even gave it a big lick and put my spit on the dash, I was getting desperate. Well anyway, by the time it really stuck it took me home a different way than the way I went. Going was the toll roads in W. Virginia, Virginia and up into Ohio. Coming home was Ohio, Kentucky, Tenn. and Asheville. It was about the same time, it just didn’t cost me the $8 that the tolls cost all together.
Well anyway, I don’t want to make this too long, but we had a tour of our high school the first day, it was a big school. So we walked the halls. What!!?? No typewriters, just a bunch of computers! Just joking.
As we walked, it was remember when we did this or that. We each remembered where we were when President Kennedy was killed.
Had a great dinner in the cafeteria, would you believe they also eat barbecue sandwiches in the north, slaw, potato salad and baked beans. Yum yum!! We started at 5:30 to end at 7:30, we left after 8. Then we all went to the Italian restaurant that the Ainsworth groups (my school) still all hang out at. What craziness, these people were so much fun, bringing the past.
Reunion continued Saturday and had a good crowd. Dinner at another Italian place, and more memories, and so sad over the ones we have lost. Classmates showed up from all over Michigan, many from Arizona, a few of us from different parts of SC, Tenn., Florida, but out of over 300 classmates there was probably 100 total there.I went around and checked high school tag pics of everyone and marked them down. I told them when I got home I’d forget who all I saw. (At our age, who can remember?) Some said I was always the one taking roll and it just hasn’t changed. I put the pics on my time line on FB and couldn’t remember the names already so I’ll pull out the yearbook and my list and match them up when I get the time.
OK, now I’ll stop boring you with my excitement, over my trip. But next week I’ll tell you about the crazy relatives I visited up there. They spoiled me!!
I want to thank Yvonne Rash who pushed me into this trip and was trying to make me fill guilty if I didn’t take it.
Ray and Stephanie Duncan are getting a new home and hope to be in it sometime in August. They bought a double wide from Sue and Bobbie Harris, and they asked me to thank them for all the extra things they have done for them in getting ready to move it. Stephanie is so grateful and so excited. I am so happy for her. It will be where Mrs Martin’s house was on Lockhart Drive.
Well this is Wednesday and Thursday I am having to take the day off work so I can cut my grass, I can’t see the house for it. Friday I’ll be back on track. I just now thought that I was supposed to go to town and buy a new phone, mine went out, can’t run a business without it. Maybe I can remember tomorrow. I thought a vacation would take the fog out of my brain. It didn’t!!
Good night and maybe in a couple of days you can call me at 864-545-6652, but I can hear you on the answering machine.
