UNION — A local music teacher will host a fundraiser to benefit three of her students this weekend.
Piano teacher Suzy Smith is holding a fundraiser yard sale to benefit three piano students — Evan Haney (Presbyterian College sophomore), Ryan West (Charleston Southern freshman) and Maisie Fisher (a 12th grader who is auditioning at Erskine College in November) — from 7 a.m.-noon this Saturday, Sept. 6, at her home, located at 1213 Arthur Boulevard in Union.
Smith said profits from the yard sale will be split three ways between the three students to go toward their piano lessons.
“These three students are not in financial hardship like a lot of families who don’t have food; it’s just very expensive to pay for college music lessons,” Smith said.
When Fisher begins college next fall, it will be the first time Smith has had three students studying college level piano at the same time.
Smith’s goal is to raise $1,500 with the sale, which will include her own items as well as items donated by students, parents and community members.
Smith’s students will perform their fall recital at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Case Brothers of Spartanburg. They will also perform two Christmas recitals this year, with half of the students playing on Saturday, Dec. 6, and the other half playing on Saturday, Dec. 13. Both Christmas recitals will be at 2:30 p.m. at Union County Museum.
