LOCKHART — The children arriving for the first day of school at Lockhart Schools got a surprise Monday morning when they found themselves being greeted by the Lockhart School Red Devil mascot.

Monday was the first day of class for students in the first through 12th grades in the Union County School District.

As they arrived by bus or by car or even on foot, students at each school were greeted by their school’s principal, teachers and other staff who helped direct them to their classes or the cafeteria or the office.

The principal, assistant principal, and other staff members at Lockhart Schools were on hand Monday morning to greet and assist the students are they arrived but there was also someone else on hand to greet the students.

It was the school’s mascot, the Red Devil, who made a surprise appearance to welcome the children to school and, like all good school mascots, to cheer them on, in this case, to a happy and successful school year.

The first day of school at Lockhart Schools also included opening day ceremony which featured music, skits, games, and door prizes focusing on the school’s theme for the year, “Mission Possible.”
