Saturday, Feb. 22

10 a.m.-2 p.m.: The New Hope United Methodist Church Men’s Club holds a Chicken Stew sale. The stew is $5 a quart. Takeout only.

1 p.m.: Mt. Rowell Baptist Church, 534 Adams Lake Road, Union, hosts a literary workshop featuring Dilsa Sanders Bailey, author of “Dreams Thrown Away” and poet Minister Jennifer Abney.

6 p.m.: Outreach Deliverance Church (ODC) in Carlisle presents a Black History Program entitled, “Embracing Our Roots.” This special program will reflect many contributions Black Americans accomplished in the history of the United States through songs, dances, skits, and a dramatic poem. Both children and adults will be featured. ODC is located at 4317 King Kennedy St., Carlisle. Eddie McConnell, pastor. All are welcomed!

Sunday, Feb. 23

11 a.m.: New Horizon Church celebrates Black History Month. Our speaker will be City of Union Mayor Harold Thompson. The public is invited. Orlando S. Allen, Pastor.

11:15 a.m.: Bethesda Baptist Church, Santuc, holds a Black History Month Celebration. Guest speaker will be Pastor Robert Charles, Rock Hill Independent Church, Jenkinsville, S.C.

2 p.m.: Bethesda Baptist Church, Santuc, holds Our Heritage (Friends and Family Day). Guest speaker will be Coach Willie Jeffries, a Union native and coach emeritus at SC State University. Rev. Roderick Oglesby Sr., Pastor.

2:30 p.m.: Bethel AME Church, 217 Hamlet St., holds its annual Lay Program. Guest speakers will be Sister Cynthia Toland, Lay President of Newberry-Spartanburg Distrist. The public is invited. Rev. Kirk Bellenson, Pastor.

Saturday, March 1

7 p.m.: Buffalo United Methodist Church will have Movie Night in the fellowship hall. Popcorn and drink will be served. Admission is one item for food pantry and everyone is welcome.

Friday, March 14

7 p.m.: Glendale Baptist Church, 111 Hottel Circle, Glendale, S.C., hosts a concert by The Chuckwagon Gang. This will be a love offering event. For more information call 864-415-1461.

Ongoing Events

The Union Moms In Prayer group meets each Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. in the Family Life Center of Bethel United Methodist Church, 1705 Lockhart Highway, Union, S.C. This is an informal gathering of moms, grandmothers, and any other interested ladies who would like to be a part of this important ministry of praying for the students, teachers, and staff of our schools. There is also opportunity, for those who wish, to ask prayer for specific individuals. All ladies are welcome to participate. Crestview Baptist Church, 1100 Furman Fendley Highway, Union, holds Celebrate Recovery every Friday night. The meal is served at 6 p.m. and worship is at 7 p.m. For more information call 864-466-6659.

Mitchell Chapel Christian Church, 381 Kelly Road in Union, holds services at its new location, 143 Camelot Drive in Union.

The Missionary Auxiliary of the Pacolet River Baptist Association has an Emergency Food Pantry in the rear (annex) of the town hall in Jonesville. The pantry is open Friday from 9:30 a.m. to noon and other times by calling the numbers posted on the sign at the entrance of the annex. Bring identification and proof residence.
