Sunday, Oct. 20


10 a.m.: Corinth Baptist Church celebrates their youth with the annual Youth Day Program. Guest speaker is Minister Heather Wilson, Youth Minister of Mitchell Chapel Christian Church, for the 10 a.m. worship experience. The theme for this event is “Youth Empowered Service.” Ms. Lucretia Burch and Mrs. Danielle N. Fowler, co-chairs. Rev. J. Archie Calhoun, pastor.


10 a.m.: Ottaray Baptist Church holds Homecoming. The Rev. Mark Truitt will be the guest speaker for the 11 a.m. service.


11 a.m.: Bethel United Methodist Church celebrates Homecoming. Rev. Will Brown will be the guest speaker for the worship service. Immediately following the service the church will have lunch and fellowship in the Family Ministries Center. We look forward to sharing this special occasion with all who have a special place in their heart for Bethel. Remember to bring a well-filled basket of food. Tea will be provided but you may bring other beverages if you wish.


11 a.m.: The Senior Adult Choir of Bethel Baptist Church, 904 Pea Ridge Highway, Jonesville, will celebrate their 49th anniversary. Everyone is welcome. John A. Gist, President. Rev. James E. Tillotson, Pastor.


2:30 p.m.: Beaty’s Chapel AME Zion Church’s Youth Combined Choir celebrates their 4th Anniversary. All youth and the public are invited. Pastor Stephen Y. Brown, Pastor.


2:30 p.m.: Monarch Baptist Church honors Pastor Sumter and First Lady Ella Franklin with their 5th Year Anniversary in the afternoon. The guest speaker for the 11 a.m. service will be Minister Eddie Griffin of Mitchell Chapel Christian Church of Union. Rev. James Owens from Lincolnville Baptist Church of Chester will be guest speaker for the afternoon service.


3 p.m.: The Adult Choir of Woodson Chapel Baptist Church will have their anniversary program. Come out and listen to some good singing. Rev. Robert E. Collins, Pastor.


3 p.m.: McBeth Baptist Church cordially invites your presence and prayers for Brother John Epps Sr. as he will be ordained as deacon. Rev. Ray Pilgrim of St. Vaughnville Baptist Church, Mountville, S.C. will deliver the message. If you are unable to attend, we solicit your prayers and that God be in the mist of this glorious event. Rev. 3 p.m.: Bethel AME Church, 217 Hamlet St., Union, holds it Second Annual Sarah Fernandez Sherman Morgan Family and Friends Day. The speaker will be Pastor Laquita Griffin of Mitchell Chapel Christian Center. Rev. Kirk Belleson, pastor.


3-5 p.m.: The Union County Council on Ministries would like to invite all children ages 5 to 12 years old to a “Fun Day with the Bible” at Grace United Methodist Church located at 201 S. Church St., Union. Some of the scheduled events include Bible story time, crafts, recreation and snacks will be served. Registration begins at 2:30 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church at 201 S. Church St, Union, SC. Hope to see you there.


6 p.m.: Jonesville Baptist Church, 301 Church St., Jonesville, hosts New Life 2013 Crusade beginnig at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, and 7 p.m. Oct. 21-23 in the Jonesville Municipal Complex Auditorium. The Crusade will feature Evangelist Frank Shivers. Special singing will be provided each night and nursery services will be available. Please call Rev. Saturday, Oct. 26


9 a.m.-3 p.m.: The Mary B. Thomas Girls Youth Circle Unit # 16 will partner with The Brothers In Black celebrating Red Ribbon Week. They will be at the The Old People Grocery Store Parking Lot in Jonesville. They will also have a Yard Sale along with Hot Dog and Fish Sale. Please stop by and support the cause.


Noon: McBeth Baptist Church, 105 Lawson Avenue, holds a Chinese Auction in the Fellowship Hall. More than 100 items will be available. Tickets are $5 and will be sold at the door. Ticket drop off will be from 10 a.m.-noon. The auction will start promptly at noon. Hot dogs and sodas will be sold. You must be present to win. The auction is sponsored by the Sunday School and Usher Board. 11 a.m.: Friendship Baptist Church of Spartanburg, 250 Morning Drive, hold “Pink Sunday” during the morning worship service with reflections from Cancer Survivor Deborah Saweuyer Parks and the morning message by Rev. Cicely White. All members and asked to wear pink to show support for Breast Cancer Awareness.


11 a.m.: New Horizon United Christian Church celebrates its 20th church year anniversary along with Pastor Orlando Allen’s 17th year. The church anniversary will be celebrated at 11 a.m. and Pastor Allen’s anniversary at 2:30 p.m. James Mason, pastor of New Emanuel Baptist Church will be the speaker at the 2:30 p.m. celebration.


2:30 p.m.: Bethany AME Church holds a New Beginning Program. The Rev. Johnny Fishburn will be the guest speaker. Everyone is invited to attend. The Rev. Dr. Corinthea Stack, pastor.


Thursday, Oct. 31


5:30-8 p.m.: New Beginnings Church, 480 Sunny Acres Road, Pacolet, holds a Harvest Celebration. The event is free and open to the public. There will be trunk or treat, inflatables, and cotton candy, all of which will be free. Hot dog plates will be sold $2.50. Funnel cakes and fried oreos for $2. Sunday, Nov. 3


Noon-until: Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 1622 Kelly Road, Union, serves Sunday dinner. The menu includes fried chicken, roast beef, steak and gravy, creamed potatoes, rice and gravy, macaroni pie, green beans, lima beans, slaw, rolls, tea, dessert. Cost is $8 per person. Wednesday, Nov. 6


5:30 p.m.: The Laura Farr Sunday School Class of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 372 Wesley Chapel Road, Union, holds their Poor Man’s Supper. The menu includes pinto beans, cabbage, stewed potatoes, cornbread, fatback, tea. Desserts extra. Singing starts at 6:15 p.m. with Kellie Allen and Patty Turner. Takeouts call 427-5319. Everyone is invited and welcomed.


Ongoing Events


The Union Moms In Prayer group meets each Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. in the Family Life Center of Bethel United Methodist Church, 1705 Lockhart Highway, Union, S.C. This is an informal gathering of moms, grandmothers, and any other interested ladies who would like to be a part of this important ministry of praying for the students, teachers, and staff of our schools. There is also opportunity, for those who wish, to ask prayer for specific individuals. All ladies are welcome to participate. Mitchell Chapel Christian Church, 381 Kelly Road in Union, holds services at its new location, 143 Camelot Drive in Union.


The Missionary Auxiliary of the Pacolet River Baptist Association has an Emergency Food Pantry in the rear (annex) of the town hall in Jonesville. The pantry is open Friday from 9:30 a.m. to noon and other times by calling the numbers posted on the sign at the entrance of the annex. Bring identification and proof residence.


New Emanuel Chapel Baptist Church has changed its services times to 9 a.m. for Sunday School and 10 a.m. for Praise and Worship.


Woodson Chapel Baptist Church has changed its services to 9 a.m. for Sunday School and 10 a.m. for Worship.
