LOCKHART — A Lockhart man has been arrested and charged with allegedly hitting a 9-year-old child.
Robert Earl Sumner, 403 N. 1 St., Lockhart, has been charged by the Union County Sheriff’s Office with child endangerment/neglect.
In a statement released Thursday afternoon, the sheriff’s office announced that, on July 29, the complainant called dispatch to report an assault at Sumner’s residence.
The press release states the complainant said she was at work and her children were at 403 N. 1st St., Lockhart with Sumner. She said she got a text message from her 15-year-old son that said Sumner had hit her 9-year-old child who was at the residence.
Deputies were dispatched to the location and found the children sitting outside with their 2-year-old brother and they appeared visibly upset. The deputy saw minor swelling under the 9-year-olds eye. The 9-year-old child said that Sumner hit him and that the 15-year-old was a witness to the incident.
The press release states that the Department of Social Services was notified and responded to the scene.
Sumner was placed under arrest and transported to the Union County Jail.
