UNION — The Union County Arts Council will be the site of a drawing workshop featuring Todd Baxter of Tega Cay.
The two-day workshop will be held Sept. 26-27 from 9:00 a.m. until 4 p.m. with lunch provided each day. Baxter will also serve as the juror for UCAC’s Juried Art Show being held at USC-Union from Sept. 25 through Oct. 24 with a reception at the university Sept. 25 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
“This workshop will be informal with very little structure,” said Baxter. “Most of the instruction will take place while the students are working. We will work in black and white or monotones, but not full color. Color is a whole new challenge and I want the focus to be on drawing and values.”
Each day will begin with some warm-up exercises and then move on to a longer project. Students are asked to bring their own photos to work from, but Baxter will bring extra photo references as backup.
“The reason for using photos instead of 3-D objects is the challenge of controlling lighting for a large group of people. We should be able to finish one drawing per day,” he said.
Baxter has been a successful graphic designer and artist since 1975. He is currently represented by the Providence Gallery in Charlotte, Olive’s in Ft. Mill, the Edward Dare Gallery in Charleston and the Sandpiper Gallery in Sullivan’s Island. He is a member of the Oil Painters of America, the Tega Cay Art League, the Charlotte Art League, the Catawba River Art Guild and the Charlotte Plein Air Painters.
