UNION COUNTY — A Jonesville man was charged earlier this week with allegedly having a makeshift weapon in his cell at the Union County Jail.

Christopher Lynn LeMaster, 23, 233 North Main Street, Jonesville, is charged by the Union County Sheriff’s Office with possession of contraband.

The incident report states that Tuesday, Aug. 22, a deputy responded to the Union County Jail where he spoke with a jailer about an incident that office in Cell A-2 of A Block. The report states the jailer told the deputy he and two other jailers had conducted a search of the cell and found a “shank” made of two pencils and a piece of wire that had been shaved down to a point. It states the shank was located inside LeMaster’s mattress.

The report states the shank would be taken into evidence and warrant signed by the deputy for possession of contraband.

LeMaster was charged later that day.
