UNION COUNTY — A search for a man reported missing by his family Wednesday morning came to an end this afternoon when his body was found in Spartanburg.

Toney Ray Wood, 49, 923 Main Street, Buffalo, was reported missing from his home Wednesday by his family after he did not report for work that morning. In the course of the ensuing investigation, the Union County Sheriff’s Office announced that video footage from a Dollar General on East Main Street in Spartanburg placed Wood at the store at 9:02 a.m. Wednesday morning. The announcement stated that after that, however, investigators had no further information on Wood’s whereabouts and the search for him was continuing.

The search is now over.

In a statement released late this afternoon, the Sheriff’s Office stated “it is sad to announce that the body of Toney Wood has been located in the City of Spartanburg. Foul play is not suspected.”

The press release further stated that “Sheriff David Taylor wishes to thank the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office, the City of Spartanburg Public Safety Department and the Union County Coroner’s Office for their assistance.”
