UNION COUNTY — Draft Day for the Dixie Youth Minor League began with 88 children and ended with seven teams.

Saturday was the first of two Draft Days being held by Dixie Youth at the Timken Sports Complex. Draft Day began at 11 a.m. with the children registered for the Dixie Youth Minor League (ages 9 & 10) on the field tossing baseballs back and forth between them. As the day wore on the draft got underway as the boys — and girls — were drafted into a total of seven teams.

Dixie Youth/Dixie Boys Secretary Kelly Small said that the second and final Draft Day for Dixie Youth this season will be for the Ozone League (ages 11 & 12) and will be held this Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Timken Sports Complex.

In addition to the Minor and Ozone leagues, Dixie Youth/Dixie Boys has four other leagues including:

• Tee Ball — ages 3 & 4

• Machine Pitch Juniors — ages 5 & 6

• Machine Pitch Seniors — 7 & 8

• Pony League — ages 13 & 14

Small said that the children who signed up for the Machine Pitch Senior League will be selected for their teams by having their names placed in a hat and drawn.

As for Machine Pitch Juniors and Tee Ball leagues, Small said the teams will be selected by being drawn equally from each age. Small said this is done so that when the older children move up the next year the younger children will still be on the same team only with newer, younger members.

Small said that team selections for the Pony League will not be made at the present time because some of those children are playing ball at their schools. She said the selections for those teams will not be made until April.
