UNION — Old Glory has a new place of honor atop the ladder truck of the Union Public Safety Department.

In a ceremony Friday afternoon, Woodmen of the World Chapter #323 presented the Union Public Safety Department with an 8×12 American flag in honor of President’s Day and in recognition of the efforts of public safety officers and first responders to serve and protect the community.

“Our Woodmen Chapter #323 currently has 700 members and we all are proud of what this department does on a daily basis to protect our local citizens,” Chapter Vice President Mike Farr said. “I would like to read a quote from our fifth president of the United States James Monroe, ‘A little flattery will support a man through great fatigue.’ Thanks for a job well done, and we continue to respect each of y0u for what you do.”

Woodmen Life Field Representative Jeff Sanders also spoke, thanking the public safety officers and first responders for the risks they take on behalf of the people of Union.

“We really appreciate what you guys do every day,” Sanders said. “You place yourselves in harm’s way to keep us safe.”

Union Public Safety Director Sam White also spoke, thanking not only the Woodmen for the flag, but also thanking the citizens of Union for their support of the department.

“We appreciate your coming because we work for you,” White said. “I want to thank the citizens because without them we would not have this equipment and would not have this opportunity to serve. Thank you for this flag, we will fly it with the honor it deserves.”

The flag was placed atop the department’s ladder truck and the ladder raised to its full height enabling Old Glory to fly continuously in the breeze.
