UNION COUNTY — A Union native and graduate of Union County High School is making his mark in the world of collegiate Indoor Track and Field competition.
Michael S. Guinn, Jr., is the son of Michael S. Sr. and Audrey Guinn and a graduate of Union County High School who is currently enrolled at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Ga.
Guinn, who is majoring in Business Management, is also involved in Indoor Track and Field. His performance in track and field won him a slot in the National Indoor Track and Field Championships which were held Friday in New York City. Representing Emanuel College in the competition, Guinn was scheduled to run the 60-meter where he has a time of 7.16.
Newberry High School Coach Cedric Jeter said he is not surprised by Guinn’s success, pointing out that he was a great track athlete at UCHS. Jeter described him as a great teammate and team leader who lead the 4×1 team to the state finals in 2014 and 2015 while also qualifying for the state finals in the 100-meter with a time of 11.2. He said that Guinn led by example with his work ethic and dedication and that he expects him to to continue to grow as both a student and an athlete.
