Drama Department to perform ‘Madagascar’ in April

The department will present the musical at a dinner performance sponsored by the Union Rotary Club on Thursday, April 20 at 6:30 p.m. There will also be non-dinner performances on Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22 at 7 p.m. on both days, and on Sunday, April 23 at 3 p.m.


UNION COUNTY — The Union County High School Drama Department will present “Madagascar: A Musical Adventure” this April. Based on the popular Dreamworks Animation film, it tells the story of a group of zoo animals who leave the Central Park Zoo in New York City and end up in the jungles of Madagascar.

The cast is a mixture of returning actors and newcomers to the UCHS stage.

Jerimey Kirby leads the cast as Alex, a lion who is the crowd favorite at the zoo.

Kaderious Fleming plays Marty, a zebra, who is Alex’s best friend. Caroline Gallman plays Gloria, a hippopotamus and Claire Pridemore plays Melman, a giraffe; they are along for the fun-filled ride!

In supporting roles are Iriana Foster as King Julien, King of the Lemurs. Her right-hand man, Maurice, is played by Jordan Clevenger. The Penguins of Madagascar are played by Shelby Summers, Kayleigh Miller, Kirklyn English, and Madyson Russell. Main Lemurs are portrayed by Laura Parris and Katie Wagner, and Cameron Newton is featured as Mason the chimp. The evil Foosa Leader is played by Raven Sanders.

Rounding out the cast are Ty Browning, Alyssa Crocker, Brindia Nunn, Mackenzie Palmer, Emily Lemons, Melena Kirby, and Julia Bailey.

Directed by Ralph Lawson, the show will feature choreography by Bess Lawson. Assistant choreographer is Mary Scarborough. Vocal direction is by Janet Lawson.

A dinner performance, sponsored by Union Rotary, will be held Thursday, April 20, at 6:30 PM. Non-dinner performances will run Friday and Saturday, April 21 and 22, at 7 PM, and Sunday, April 23, at 3 PM.
