UNION — For some students at Foster Park Elementary School their most recent “Snazzy Snack” was an “Edible Sea Turtle.”

In a statement released earlier this month, FPES announced that “Snazzy Snacks are done once a month in Mrs. Roark’s 3rd grade classroom. Snazzy Snacks are a fun way to practice handwriting skills, math skills, science skills, and following directors.”

They do this, the press release states, copying a recipe presented them in a PowerPoint presentation in their best handwriting. After copying the recipe, the students “have to carefully follow the directions from the recipe to make the snack. Next they have to illustrate the snack.”

After that, the students get to get eat the snack they’ve made, which the press release describes as “the best part” of the project.

While the snacks are usually holiday-themed, the press release states that since Mrs. Roark is now teaching 3rd grade, each Snazzy Snack “will be South Carolina history-related.” The most recent of these was an Edible Sea Turtle because, according to the press release, the “South Carolina State Reptile is the loggerhead sea turtle.”

Another for the Edible Sea Turtle Snazzy Snack is that the class mascot is “Seymore the Sea Turtle” whose adventures can be checked out on the class website (http://mrsroarksclass.weebly.com/seymores-adventures.html.)
