UNION COUNTY — The Union County Yellow Jackets’ playoff run ended after a hard-fought battle with Ridge View on Friday.

Union County suffered a four-point loss to the Ridge View Blazers in the second round of 4A playoffs on Friday. The final score was 24-20 in favor of the Blazers.

At the end of the first quarter, Ridge View led Union County 7-0. In the second quarter, the Yellow Jackets put their first points on the board with a 15-yard field goal. Then, the Blazers answered with a field goal of their own, making the score 10-3. Ridge View scored again with a 34-yard touchdown run, taking a 17-3 lead. Union County then responded when Brandon Thompson connected with Quadric Smith for a 26-yard touchdown pass on fourth and 9, decreasing the Blazers’ lead to seven points at halftime.

In the beginning of the third quarter, Union County scored another field goal, decreasing Ridge View’s lead to 17-13. Then, a touchdown reception by Union County’s Doug Brannon put Union County in the lead 20-17.

In the beginning of the fourth quarter, Ridge View took back the lead with a touchdown run, making the score 24-20. With less than four minutes remaining in the final quarter, Cam Lott stripped the ball from the Blazers, but Union County was unable to get a first down.

Following the game, Union County Head Coach Bradley Adams said his team had difficulty moving the ball offensively. Adams said the Jackets were unable to run the ball effectively, and they were forced to pass the ball repeatedly, which is not the kind of style they are used to playing. The Yellow Jackets finished with a 7-5 record overall.
