UNION — A “Big Red Christmas Barn,” a “House Divided”, and “Ginger Awesome” are among the winners of the Gingerbread House competition at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity.

Each year the church hosts its “Gingerbread House Display” which enables the people of Union County to express their creativity and artistic ability by making gingerbread houses. This year’s entries were judged Wednesday and the winners in each category — Adult, Youth, Children — were announced Thursday. The winning entries and their creators are:

Children

• 1st Place — “Big Red Barn” by the Haney Family

• 2nd Place — “Aloha Christmas” by Gracie Messer

• 3rd Place — “Elsa’s Frozen Cottage” by Loralie Bennett

Youth

• 1st Place — “House Divided” by Austin and Nathan Burger

• 2nd Place — “Walking in a West Springs Wonderland” by the West Springs Baptist Youth Group

Adults

• 1st Place — “Ginger Awesome” by Larry and Ryleigh Yarborough

• 2nd Place — “Rudolph’s Cottage” by Johnnie Sherbert

• 3rd Place — “No Room at the Inn” by Ann White

The Gingerbread House Display, which began Thursday, continues today at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

In addition to the Gingerbread House Display, the event also features a bake sale and hand painted craft items by Jill Brown for sale. There will also be a drawing for a handmade craft item donated by Brown and the public will have the opportunity to buy a chance to win it.

The funds raised from the event will be used for The Episcopal Church of the Nativity’s community outreach for Meals on Wheels and Union County’s Habitat for Humanity as well as the church’s in-reach programs.

The Episcopal Church of the Nativity is located at 320 S. Church St., Union.
