Chapman receives Purple Heart

UNION — University of South Carolina Union student Alex Chapman was officially presented a Purple Heart of Bravery at the Clemson-Syracuse football game during the Military Appreciation segment.

The Military Appreciation ceremony included a flyover by A-10 Thunderbolt IIs assigned to the 74th Fighter Squadron from Moody Air Force Base and Army Special Forces parachuted the Game Ball in. Marine General Glenn M. Walters, assistant commandant of the Marine Corps, awarded Chapman his Purple Heart for injuries sustained by an IED in 2011 during his combat tour in Afghanistan.

Chapman lives in Pacolet with his wife, Jodie, and their two little girls. When asked what his life motto is, he stated “never take anything for granted.” After he graduates from USC Union, he wants to become a Game Warden with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
