GAFFNEY — The Union County High School “Sting Machine” made directors, parents and the community proud during last Saturday’s Upper State Marching Band Championships.

The members of the Union County High School marching band — affectionately referred to as the “Sting Machine” — were praised by their director Jeff Key for a wonderful performance during the 3A Upper State Marching Band Championships held at Gaffney High School.

Union County placed 9th out of 20 bands in attendance and scored an 83.1. Last year, the band placed 17th out of 20 bands.

“I am willing to bet that no other school that competed today in championships in any other class will have jumped eight places in one year!” Key said “Our improvement in 3A alone was more than any other band this year!”

Key said everyone involved with the band is proud of its success, and the plan is to continue new expectations of achievement for the students.
