Down By The River
The Town of Lockhart presents the Down By The River Festival Oct. 29 at the Lockhart Town Center. The festival will feature the following:
• Pacolet & Broad River Float & Race at 7 a.m. Access point will be the Pacolet River — Skull Shoals at SC 105. The departure point for floaters will be the mouth of the Broad River. The race begins at the Broad and ends at Lockhart takeout.
• Festival from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. with arts and crafts, good food vendors, live music, and children’s activities.
Main Street in downtown Union will be filled with ghosts, ghouls, goblins, zombies, vampires, witches, princesses, cartoon characters, superheroes and more during “Halloween Downtown” Monday, Oct. 31 from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Families are invited to bring their children to Main Street dressed in their Halloween costumes and Trick or Treat the businesses of Main Street.
Halloween Downtown is sponsored by the businesses of downtown Union, the City of Union, and the Union County YMCA.
Spooky Fun Festival
Families are invited to bring their children to the Carlisle Town Hall and Trick or Treat during the “Spooky Fun Festival’ on Halloween, Monday, Oct. 31 from 5-7 p.m.
A flyer advertising the event urges the public to “dress up and come hang out with all the the Ghouls and Ghosts at the Carlisle Town Hall.” It further urges the public to “bring the family and enjoy an evening of tricks and treats.”
There will be “Howling Fun Kids Games” including:
• Bowling Pumpkins
• A Batty Pinata
• Spider Racing
• Slime the Wicked Witch
• Icky Sticky Jello
• Count the Candy
The flyer also states that there will also be:
• Kids Make a Mask Crafts
• Dress Up Selfie Station
• A Kids Costume Walk and Contest at 6 p.m.
• Treats! Candy! Prizes!
Finally, everyone is invited to “bring your friends” for what will no doubt be a ghoulish good time.
“Trick Or Trunk” at Heartland
Heartland Assisted Living, 709 Rice Avenue, Union, will hold a “Trick Or Trunk” on Halloween, Oct. 31, from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
The event will be held in the park the center’s parking lot. The staff will decorate the trunks of their cars. The residents will pass out candy.
The community is invited to attend and bring their children.
The Union County Beekeepers Association will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. in the Clemson Extension Meeting Room at the fairgrounds.
Light refreshments are served at 6 p.m. and meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.
We will begin our membership drive for 2017. Catherine Casey and Frank Pennas will present a program on soap making.
Everyone interested in bees or soap making is encouraged to attend.

Local Artists Showcase
The Union County Arts Council is calling for entries for the 2016 Local Artists Showcase to be held at the UCAC gallery from Nov. 7 through Dec. 31. This annual showcase features the work of local artists in a variety of media.
The show gives local artists the chance to show their work in a gallery setting and to also sell their work.
The goal of the show is to include as many artists as possible. The show will feature not only paintings and photography, but also wood carving, hand made jewelry, ornaments, signs, clothing, scarves, pottery, soaps and lotions, and works in other mediums.
All artists wanting to take part in this exhibit are asked to drop off their work during UCAC’s normal business hours. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Special arrangements can be made for after hour or weekend drop offs.
All local artists are encouraged to participate in this showcase.
This is a great way for new and seasoned artists to show their work to our community!

Medi-Home Hospice will hold a Street Fair on Nov. 4 from 3-7 p.m. in the parking lot at 702 S. Duncan Bypass, Union.
The Street Fair is free and the public is invited to attend.

Fun And Fellowship
Betsy and Company along with Over the Hill Relay for Life Team presents a fun-filled day to Harrah’s Cherokee Casino on Saturday, December 3.
First pick up in Jonesville at 7 a.m. at the Jonesville Municipal Building with second pick up at the old Walmart parking lot at 7:45 a.m. and third pick up in Spartanburg at Ingles on Pine Street at 8:30 a.m.

Medi Home Hospice is sponsoring a Bereavement Program. Anyone who has lost a loved one and needs guidance with their loss is invited to attend.
The Bereavement Program will be held at the Medi Home Hospice office located at 720 Duncan Bypass, Suite C, Union, on the top floor of Austin Rehab.
Meetings will be every first Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m.
