UNION COUNTY — When students, parents, and visitors arrive at Union County High School one of the first things they will see is a sign honoring the school’s Softball team for winning the state championship in 2014 and 2015.
The sign was unveiled Wednesday afternoon during a ceremony attended by the members of the Softball team, their coach, school and school district officials, and SC House District 42 Rep. Mike Anthony who obtained the sign for the school.
“We are honoring the ‘14 and ‘15 state champions,” Anthony said during the ceremony. “What we’re trying to do is put it on the grounds so people can see it.”
Softball Coach Tommy Petty said he was delighted that the team is receiving such recognition and praised the members of the team for all their hard work, both on and off the field. He said it is a sign of just how bright the future is at UCHS.
Anthony said it is his hope that the sign will be there when the children of the current members of the Softball team are themselves students at Union County High School.
