2016 Hog Jog 5K draws 22 runners


Event raises funds for YMCA’s Annual Campaign

The 22 runners in the event ran from Midway BBQ along a route that took them to the Timken Sports Complex and then back to the restaurant which provided them with breakfast. The Hog Jog is an annual fundraising event that raises funds for the Union County YMCA’s Annual Campaign.

BUFFALO — Their run began and ended at Midway BBQ and included a lap around the Timken Sports Complex parking where the 22 runners in the 2016 Hog Jog 5K could get some water as they ran to raise funds for the Union County YMCA Saturday morning.

The Hog Jog is an annual fundraiser designed to raise funds for the Union County YMCA’s Annual Campaign. They Hog Jog and other fundraising events generate funds the YMCA uses to help it provide a variety of services to the people of Union County including reduced membership fees, after school program, summer camp, and sports activities.

Each participant pays a $20 entry fee to participate and Union County YMCA Director Scott Sandor said that this year’s Hog Jog, which was held this past Saturday, drew a total of 22 runners.

The runners began their Hog Jog run at 8 a.m. at Midway BBQ and ran along SC 215 to Times Boulevard, ran along there and then onto Rice Avenue Extension, making their way to Timken Sports Complex where they ran a lap around the parking lot. They could also pause to get water and take a breather or grab a cup of water and continue on without stopping. Once done with their lap at Timken, the runners went back on to Rice Avenue Extension and made their way to to Lukesville Road and from there to Duncan Avenue and back to Midway BBQ.

After completing their run, the runners enjoyed breakfast provided by the restaurant. The breakfast was included along with a visor when they paid their entry fee.

Sandor thanked both the runners for the taking part in this year’s Hog Jog and Midway BBQ for its support of the event.
