UNION COUNTY — A new partnership is making an often lifesaving service more affordable for a number of local businesses and their employees.
In a statement released this past week, the Union County Chamber of Commerce and Regional One announced that they have entered into a partnership to offer Chamber members and employees of businesses that are members of the Chamber the opportunity to join Regional One’s Membership Program at a special “members-only” discounted rate.
The press release states that “as your local air ambulance, serving area residents from our surrounding bases, Regional One understands the critical aspect of time in treating medical emergencies. For those of us living in rural America, our recovery can depend on how much time it takes to be transported to emergency medical treatment. Air Ambulance Transport can cut that transportation time in half.”
The statement then goes on to describe the benefits of being enrolled in Regional One’s Membership Program.
“In the event a member is flown by Regional One or any of our other 250 aircraft in the Air Medcare Network covering 32 states including GHS MedTrans, AnMed Life Flight, Meducare, and EagleMed for a life or limb-threatening emergency, we will work with the member’s benefits provider to secure payment for their flight. Whatever the benefits provider pays will be considered payment in full. Even with medical insurance, an air medical transport can leave patients with unexpected out-of-pocket expenses, burdening their finances and family.”
According to its website (www.regional-one.com), Regional One began in May 2003 when Spartanburg Regional Medical Center “announced the beginning of a helicopter ambulance service for the South Carolina counties of Spartanburg, Cherokee, Laurens and Union, and Polk and Rutherford counties in North Carolina. Our services are available to outlying hospitals, and our medevac team includes registered nurses, paramedics and pilots.”
The website states that “when life hangs on crucial seconds, Regional One puts time on your side. Our crew and helicopter can be on their way within 3 1/2 minutes of an emergency call. And you can rest easy knowing that you or a loved one is traveling in safe hands. Our pilots have logged thousands of flight hours, and our medical team is the first to have both an International Flight Paramedic of the Year and an International Flight Nurse of the Year.”
Regional One is based at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center and, according to its website, its average response time to an emergency call from the Union Medical Center is nine minutes.
The press release states that those interested in becoming a member of the Air Medcare Network or who have questions should call the local representative, Marilyn Ingle, at 864-415-1899.
As the “members-only” discounted rate is only open to businesses that are members of the Chamber and their employees, the press release recommends contacting Union County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Torance Inman at 864-427-9039 to find out how to become a Chamber member and utilize this and other benefits.
