UNION — A co-ed softball tournament will raise funds for the expenses of a player and parent who were injured in an auto accident before a Dixie Girls scrimmage.
The co-ed softball tournament fundraiser will be held for Karlie Chapman and her father, Andrew Chapman, on Saturday, April 16, at South Hills Complex.
After leaving the Union County Recreation Department for a Dixie Girls softball scrimmage, player Karlie Chapman and her father, Andrew, were involved in an accident on motorcycle. Both suffered major injuries which will require months of healing and recovery. Karlie suffered a broken leg, nose, jaw and eye socket, as well as a bruised lung; and Andrew suffered a broken leg and arm, as well as fractures in his spine and neck.
The Dixie Girls invite everyone to come out to Saturday’s tournament and help raise money for the Chapmans’ expenses that occur as they both go through a long healing process. Donations are also welcome, and concessions will be available at the field.
The tournament will include up to 14 teams, with the first-place winner receiving a trophy and t-shirts. Second-place winners will receive a plaque and t-shirts, and third-place winners will receive a plaque.
The tournament will be double-elimination, with an entry fee of $275. The rules are as follows:
— 1-and-1 count
— No good foul
— No Senior bats, Ultras or Titanium (may use .52 core 300 or 275 comp., or .44 core 400 or 375 comp.)
