UNION COUNTY — The Union County High School golf team secured it’s first victory of the season over Chester on Monday.
Union County defeated Chester by a score of 177-190.
“Those guys really battled hard yesterday in their individual matches,” said coach Rocky Cooper.
Union County’s Riley Pittman was the Medalist for the match with a low round of 41.
“Riley played very well for us today and made some great putts out there on the greens,” Cooper said.
Other scores for Union County were as follows:
Rob Mitchell — 44
Garrett Alexander — 45
Austin Gregory — 47
Cole Seymore — 50
Lucas Austin — 58
“Garrett Alexander is a newcomer — not only to the team, but to the game itself,” Cooper said. “He’s been playing very well for our team, and yesterday had to play with a large cut on the palm of his hand that made it difficult to grip the club.”
Cooper said Alexander played regardless of the cut on his hand and brought in a great score for the team.
“All the guys played great yesterday, and Coach Robby Quinn and myself were very proud of their effort they gave!” Cooper said.
The team continues this week with a three-way match tonight, Wednesday, March 23, with Broome and Landrum and then again tomorrow, Thursday, March 24, with Broome, Clinton and Chapman. Both matches will be held at Heddles Hideaway CC in Spartanburg.
