UNION — This year’s Relay for Life cancer survivor’s dinner will feature a guest speaker who is known for giving audiences a good laugh and life lessons.
The “Celebration of Our Stars” cancer survivor dinner — presented by Relay for Life of Union County — will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 11, in the Tabernacle Baptist Church Family Life Center, located at 915 Pinckney Street, Union.
The guest speaker for the event will be former Miss South Carolina Jane Jenkins Herlong.
Herlong’s website — www.janeherlong.com — states she weaves together humorous storytelling, enriching life lessons and uplifting songs (featured on Sirius XM Radio) based upon her own journey from the farm to the runway of the Miss America Pageant and beyond.
“Jane shares how her sense of humor helped her overcome being labeled Dyslexic and other issues to find her success,” the site states.
Herlong guarantees audiences will laugh, but also take away life skills. Her newest book, “Bury Me with My Pearls,” is an Amazon best-seller.
Herlong is active in her church and community, serving as a Commissioner at Piedmont Technical College, Chair of the National Speakers Association Scholarship Committee, and a member of the Foundation Board of the National Speakers Association. She is also a wife and mother, and she lives with her family on her family peach farm in Edgefield County.
All survivors with caregivers are welcome at the dinner (survivor plus two guests), but capacity is limited to the first 300 attendees. Tickets are available through Relay for Life teams, and those who are interested may RSVP Torance Inman at (864) 427-9039.
The event is sponsored by Relay for Life of Union County and Hospice Care of South Carolina.
