UNION COUNTY — A Union woman was arrested this week by the Union County Sheriff’s Office for falsely claiming that she and another woman had been the victims of an assault Monday evening.
In a statement released this week, Sheriff David Taylor announced that Angela Christine Sinclair, 52, 528 Police Club Road, Union, has been charged with giving false information to law enforcement.
Taylor said that at approximately 8:20 p.m. Monday, deputies were dispatched at the request of the Union County EMS to the 200 block of Whitmire Highway in reference to a possible assault. The incident report filed in the case states that deputies were advised that a motorist had called 911 to report a woman on the side of the road. After arriving on the scene, EMS personnel asked for deputies to be dispatched. The report states that EMS also notified deputies of a possible second victim.
When deputies arrived on the scene, Taylor said they met with Sinclair who was being evaluated by EMS personnel. Taylor said that Sinclair told deputies that she and a friend had been at the Magnuson Inn with her husband when she and her friend were assaulted by a man known as “Taye Diggs.” He said that Sinclair told deputies that she managed to escape and was attempting to flee to a friend’s home when she was found. She said her friend also managed to escape and was hiding in the woods.
Taylor said that K-9 officers were dispatched to the scene along with investigators. He said that the K-9 personnel were unable to pick up a track of another victim.
Investigators then arrived on scene and began their investigation, including interviewing Sinclair. Taylor said that in the course of the investigation it was determined that the information Sinclair gave EMS and deputies was false. He said Sinclair was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon and transported to the Union County Jail where she was booked and charged.
