UNION COUNTY — The Union County Yellow Jackets football team will face Chapin on the road tonight in the third round of 3A playoffs.
Coming off last week’s win over the then-undefeated Greer Yellow Jackets, the Union County Yellow Jackets will look to get another victory tonight over the Chapin Eagles to advance further in the 3A playoffs. Union County Head Coach Steve Taneyhill said his team must focus on finding a way to beat the Eagles, who he said are very talented.
The Eagles are 11-1 on the season, and Taneyhill said their defense contains plenty of talent.
“Their quarterback is a finalist for Mr. Football and the tight end is a big time Division 1 prospect,” Taneyhill said. “We must handle their blitz on offense and play better on special teams.”
Taneyhill said the Yellow Jackets have a tendency to play well during the pressure of the post-season.
“We are playing with a confidence that we didn’t play with earlier in the season,” he said. “There is something about the playoffs here at Union County that brings the best out of these kids. It’s an exciting time for all the players and coaches.”
Union County’s MVPs last week were Shi Smith, De’Airrius Smith, Douglas Brannon, Chris Thompson and Debo Woods.
Tonight’s game begins at 7:30 p.m. at Cecil Woolbright Field at Chapin High School, located at 300 Columbia Avenue, Chapin.
