UNION – Sims Middle School held its annual Veterans Day Program on Tuesday.
Sims Principal Mickey Connolly said the program was presented to honor those who have served and those who currently serve in the U.S. military.
The Union County High School JROTC Color Guard presented the Colors, and the Sims 8th grade band and orchestra performed “The Star Spangled Banner” and “Marches of the Armed Forces” in which veterans in attendance were asked to stand when the march from their branch was played. Sims faculty member Mitchell Moss also performed “God Bless the U.S.A.”
The guest speaker of the program was CSM (Ret.) Doug Gilliam.
Amanda Kingsmore performed “God Bless America,” and the 6th grade Sims Singers performed “Song of the Unsung Hero.” The UCHS JROTC Drill Team also presented a drill performance, and the entire Sims gymnasium was decorated with patriotic artwork created by students.
Connolly said he was thankful for those who helped make the program possible, including the UCHS JROTC; the Sims Middle School faculty and staff; Cindy Fore of the Veteran Affairs Office of Union County; David Candler; Laura Clyde; Pam Fowler; Amanda Kingsmore; John Kvasnicka; Tim Lawson; Ronnie Lybrand; Mitchell Moss; Courtney Seymore; Jennifer Tazerouti; Melinda Tucker; Katie Wagner; and Buddy Wilkes.
