UNION — A play with a Christian message that the play’s author hopes will help bring people to Jesus Christ will be presented Sunday at the USC Union auditorium.

“Jesus is Knocking, Will You Answer?” is an original stage play written by Mary Owens who wrote the following about the story it tells, the message it conveys, and the possible impact it can have on people’s lives

The play is based on the life of the main character in the play, “Lillie.” Lillie is the mother of Mary, the play’s writer. Mary’s mother is her critic for all of her plays since 2008. She will write and let hear it, if she laughs then she knows others will like it. Her particular plays tell of the hardship Lillie had in life as a single parent.

Lillie was a good mother for her children providing for them by doing domestic work. When Lillie worked sometimes she only earned $10 a day, but she clothed and fed her children. She taught her children the Lord will provide if you trust Him. Mary said this has grown up in her throughout the years. Also, try to bless someone else if you can.

Lillie was called to preach years ago by the Lord. However, she believes after hearing the call, she didn’t feel like she was ready. Lillie put the calling off. She feels that the Lord put her in a wheelchair, because she didn’t follow His call. Some of the scenes in the play are original and some aren’t said Owens. We want to make the audience laugh and sometimes they cry. The audience can place themselves in some of the scenes. We are a group of Christian cast and we want to bring souls to Christ through spiritual drama.

Owens said each year they have a focus to donate to. This year the focus is on one of the past cast members, David Smith. She said he was dear to her heart like a brother. Owens said she wants to start a scholarship in his honor. Owens said, David loved young people and wanted them to get an education.

Owens said she came from a single parent household, but because of the motivation from her Mother and Aunt that was like a second Mother she is the lady she is today. We want to give to a student at USC-U toward their tuition. Owens also said she wants to give to two cancer patients.

Owens said, the Lord has blessed me over and over again and she wants to bless someone else. Owens said she wants all of Union County to come out and see the talent that she has discovered and the message they are delivering. She said if there is a overage in the building they will perform again. Admission is $15 for adults, kids 6-12 $7.50 and children under 6 are free.

Owens also said, there is a possibility that the cast may be able to travel with the play in the near future.

“Jesus is Knocking, Will You Answer?” will be performed Sunday at 5 p.m. in the USC Union Auditorium. There will be prizes and giveaways. For more information call 864-429-1402.
