UNION — Looking for Christmas gifts for a family members or friends? How about a book? You’ll be able to buy one (or more) beginning this Friday when Friends on Main … Books & More bookstore holds its Grand Opening at its new location.
Originally located in the old Greene’s Salvage Groceries Store building at 126 East Main Street, Union, Friends on Main … Books & More has been closed since the end of June to allow the Friends of the Union County Carnegie Library which operates the bookstore to do a complete inventory of the books and other media it has in stock.
Now, just in time for Christmas, Friends on Main … Books & More is reopening at its new location in the Lewis W. Long Building (the historic Community Hospital Building) at 213 West Main Street, Union. The bookstore will hold a Grand Opening which will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony and light refreshments from 4-30-5:30 p.m. just before the Union Christmas Parade.
The Friends of the Union County Carnegie Library are spending this week decorating the bookstore’s new location for Christmas and moving the thousands of books it has in stock from its old location and putting them on the shelves in their new home. The Friends are asking for volunteers to help with the moving of the books to the new location Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2-4 p.m. each day. If you’d like to volunteer, call Rebecca Rochester at 864-466-6981 or just show up at the new location.
In announcing the move in June, the Friends of the Union County Carnegie Library stated that, unlike its old location, the new bookstore’s new location “has lights, heat, air, two restrooms and a roof that does not leak. Freshly painted walls are just part of the work done to make us welcome in this wonderful building.”
The announcement also stated that the Friends of the Union County Carnegie Library “would like to express sincere gratitude to the Lewis W. Long Building Board without whose interest and support this endeavor would have been unlikely. Working in community partnership, we hope to support the revitalization of downtown Union.”
So, if you’re looking for a Christmas present for family members and friends be there for the Friends on Main … Books & More Grand Opening, enjoy the refreshments, check out the place, buy some books, and then stick around for the Union Christmas Parade at 6 p.m. and Christmas Downtown.
