21 sign to play for USC Union

UNION — Eight young women and 13 young men are the latest student-athletes to join the rosters of the USC Union softball and soccer teams.

In a statement released Wednesday, USC Union announced that it had held a “Signing Day” for the “new 2017-2018 Bantam athletes on November 1 in the auditorium.”

The press release states that Men’s Soccer Coach Zach Simmons “recruited and signed 13 players for his 2017-2018 team. The team will practice and host games at the Union County YMCA’s soccer field. Coach Simmons is a graduate of USC Union and is looking forward to his season.”

The press release states The Lady Bantams Softball Coach Amanda Warley “signed eight players for her 2017-2018 team. City Park on Main Street down from the Courthouse is now the home of USC Union Lady Bantams. Coach Warley was head softball coach at Patrick Henry Community College and assistant head coach at Florence Darlington Tech, where she led both teams to NCJAA region championships.”

The press release states that a season schedule for all teams will be announced at a later date.

Soccer

These are the young men who signed to play for the Bantam Soccer Team, the high schools they are currently attending and their location, and the position they will be playing for the Bantams:

• Benjamin Darnell — Hillcrest High School (Simpsonville, SC) — Right back

• Jack Snelgrove — Clinton High School (Clinton, SC) — Right wing back and defensive mid

• Gregory Zayn Sutton — Buford High School (Lancaster, SC) — Center back

• Blaine Gossman — Buford High School (Lancaster, SC) — Outside mid and attacking mid

• Jose Pimentel — Union County High School (Union, SC) — Right midfield

• Vincente Ramirez — Union County High School (Union, SC) — Attacking mid

• John Addison — Union County High School (Union, SC) — Forward

• Curtis Blake Johnson — Union County High School (Union, SC) — Right wing back and forward

• Brandon Smith — Wade Hampton High School (Greenville, SC) — Center back and right back

• Luke Edward Redding — Christian Homeschool of Union County, played at Union County High School (Union, SC) — Defensive holding mid

• Tate Anders — Wren High School (Piedmont, SC) — Center defensive mid

• Cameron Yelton — Dreher High School (Columbia, SC) — Right back and left back

• Zackary Curlee — Hillcrest High School (Simpsonville, SC) — Forward and attacking mid

USC Union is currently holding its 2017-2017 Bantam Athletic Sponsorship campaign to raise funds to help its sports teams with travel expenses, uniforms, hosting tournaments and equipment. The campaign, which runs until Dec. 15, offers the following sponsorship packages:
