UNION COUNTY — The Union County High School Yellow Jackets were dominated on both sides of the ball this past Friday night by a very talented Spartanburg Viking team 41-7.
The Jacket offense was unable to sustain any drives and the defense allowed nearly 400 yards of total offense. Union County’s lone touchdown came late in the fourth quarter as Deshaun Holmes punched the ball in from one yard out after a long drive by the Union County offense.
Quarterback Kesean Glover was injured again late in the game on Friday and he will not be available this Friday against Ridgeview.
This Friday night the Yellow Jackets will travel to the Columbia area to take on the Ridgeview Blazers. The Jackets played Ridgeview twice last season. The first meeting was in the regular season at Union County Stadium that saw Ridgeview come away with a 33-30 win in the last minute of the game. The second meeting was in the second round of the 4A playoffs and Ridgeview won that meeting as well 24-20.
With Glover injured and unable to go Friday night the Jackets will turn to senior Will Horlacher to lead the team. Horlacher has seen action at the quarterback position for the Jackets this season, and saw some success, leading the jackets on scoring drives against York earlier this season.
Horlacher is a capable quarterback, and while he may not be as fast as Glover, he is a more powerful runner. More of the style of Tim Tebow or Cam Newton, instead of say Michael Vick or Russell Wilson. For the Jackets to be successful against Ridgeview he will need the help of more speedy running backs like Desahun Holmes, TT Kershaw, and others to compliment his power running style.
