UNION COUNTY — The fall soccer program at the Union County YMCA not only provides children ages 3-13 with the opportunity to learn about and play the game, but also to experience character development including how to be a team player.
Monday, Sept. 11 is the last day to register for the YMCA’s fall soccer program which gets under way with the start of practice on Monday, Sept. 18 . The first games will be played Saturday, Sept. 30 with competition continuing through the last week of October or the first week of November.
The program is for children ages 3-13 who, according to YMCA Director Scott Sandor, not only learn about the game, but also about building character.
“Our fall soccer program focuses on skill development and a lot of times it’s an introduction to team sports for the children,” Sandor said. “Our program places an emphasis on being a team player and character development. It is competitive, we do keep score, but the focus is not on winning but being a team player and skill development.”
Sandor said the registration fee is $55 for YMCA members and $65 for non-members. He said the registration fee covers everything about the program including the participating child’s uniform, the trophies that are awarded, and the end of the season party.
