UNION COUNTY — After three games — two of them played as a double elimination — in the Dixie Boys 14U World Series the 2017 season came to end for the Union County All Stars.

In a statement released Tuesday, Union County Dixie Youth/Dixie Boys Secretary Kelly Small announced that the All Stars fell to Alabama 19-11 in Game 3 of the Dixie Boys 14U World Series at Oscar Frazier Park in Bluffton this past Monday.

Monday’s game was the second game of a double elimination the All Stars played during the series. The first game of the double elimination was Game 2 of the series for the All Stars and was played on Sunday. The All Stars narrowly last that game to North Carolina 9-6. In Game 1 of the World Series, which was played on Saturday, the All Stars defeated Tennessee 16-0 in 2 1/2 innings.

With their losses on Sunday and Monday, however, the All Stars were eliminated from the World Series.

Even though they were eliminated from the World Series, the All Stars can nevertheless look back with pride on a highly successful 2017 season. The All Stars won most of their games during regular season and then went on to win all their games in the State Tournament which was held at the Timken Sports Complex. The All Stars not only won all of the tournament games and with them the State Championship, they did so by outscoring their opponents 70-16. As State Champions the All Stars represented South Carolina in the World Series, giving strong performances in each of the games they played there.

“We are so very proud of this team,” Small said. “They are an outstanding group of young men and great athletes. They never lost their focus, cheered for each other and picked each other up when things didn’t go their way. There were bonds made this week at the World Series that these coaches and players will never forget.”

Small said Union County Dixie Youth/Dixie Boys is now focusing on the 2018 season.

“Now that the Dixie Baseball Season has come to a close for 2017, planning will begin for the 2018 season,” Small said. “We hope to make improvements where they are needed while continuing to have a successful upcoming season.

“In mid-July of next year we will be hosting the 2018 Dixie Youth OZone State Tournament at our beautiful Timken Sports Complex and possibly another Dixie Boys event as well,” she said. “We have a great league here in Union County and look forward to an exciting 2018 Baseball Season locally and in post season tournament play.”
