UNION COUNTY — The impressive winning streak that included them winning the State Championship came to an end for the Union County All Stars with a narrow loss to North Carolina during Game 2 of Dixie Boys 14U World Series.
In a statement released Thursday, Dixie Youth/Dixie Boys Secretary Kelly Small announced that the All Stars fell to North Carolina 9-6 in Game 2 of the World Series at Oscar Frazier Park in Bluffton.
Sunday’s loss, which Kelly said put the team in the loser’s bracket, ended a winning streak the team had enjoyed for much of the season. After winning most of their games during the regular season, the All Stars went on to win all their games in the State Tournament, outscoring their tournament opponents 70-16.
With their victories in the State Tournament, which was played at the Timken Sports Complex, the All Stars won the State Championship and with it the right to represent South Carolina in the Dixie Boys 14U World Series. In Game 1 of the series, which was played last Saturday, the All Stars decisively defeated Tennessee 16-0 in 2 1/2 innings before losing to North Carolina on Sunday.
