ROCK HILL — For the first time since the beginning of this century the UCI BMX World Championships are being held in the United States of America and it’s being held just up the road from Union County in Rock Hill.

The UCI BMX World Championships is an international competition of bike riders held each year in a different country. This year the event is being hosted by the City of Rock Hill and being held at the Norvant Health BMX Track. This is the first time since 2001 that the championships have been held in the United States of America.

An opening ceremony for the championships was held this past Saturday in the downtown of Rock Hill and at Fountain Park with live bands, amusement rides, international food trucks, and presentation of flags.

The competition got under way Monday and will continue through Saturday with more than 3,300 riders from more than 40 countries taking part.

The schedule of events for the remainder of the competition includes:

Wednesday

9 a.m.-5 p.m.: Accreditation center open.

6 a.m.-until: Team area open; team area closes one hour after racing finishes.

7-7:50 a.m.: Warm-up — 20” — Ages 5 to 11 boys, ages 5 to 12 girls.

8 a.m.-until: UCI BMX World Challenge — Ages 5 to 11 boys, ages 5 to 12 girls

Following racing: Prize giving ceremony.

Thursday

9 a.m.-5 p.m.: Accreditation center open.

6 a.m.-until: Team area open; team area closes one hour after racing finishes.

7-7:50 a.m.: Warm-up — 20” — Ages 12 to 16 boys, ages 13 to 16 girls.

8 a.m.-until: UCI BMX World Challenge — Ages 12 to 16 boys, ages 13 to 16 girls.

Following racing: Prize giving ceremony.

6:30-10 p.m.: UCI BMX Convention.

Friday

9 a.m.-5 p.m.: Accreditation center open.

6 a.m.-2 p.m.: Team area open.

7-7:50 a.m.: Warm-up — 20” — Ages 17 and over men and women, plus Masters.

8 a.m.-until: UCI BMX World Challenge — Ages 17 and over men and women, plus Masters.

Following Racing — Prize giving ceremony.

5-6:10 p.m.: Training — Men Juniors.

6:10-7:20 p.m.: Training — Women Juniors and Women Elite.

7:20-8:30 p.m.: Training — Men Elite — Group A.

8:30-9:40 p.m.: Training — Men Elite — Group B.

Saturday

9 a.m.-3 p.m.: Accreditation center open

9 a.m.-10:30 p.m.: Team area open — championships only.

10-10:45 a.m.: Training — Men Juniors.

10:45-11:30 a.m.: Training — Women Juniors and Women Elite.

11:30 a.m.-12.15 p.m.: Training — Men Elite — Group A.

12:15-1 p.m.: Training — Men Elite — Group B.

2:20-2:35 p.m.: Warm-up Men Juniors.

2:35-2:50 p.m.: Warm-up Women Juniors and Women Elite.

2:50-3:05 p.m.: Warm-up Men Elite — Group A.

3:05-3:20 p.m.: Warm-up Men Elite — Group B.

3:30-5:30 p.m.: UCI BMX World Championships Motos — Women Juniors (WJ), Men Juniors (MJ).

6:40-6:45 p.m.: Flag hand over to UCI BMX World Championships 2018 — Baku (AZE)

6:50-9 p.m.: UCI BMX World Championships Race 1/8 1/4 , 1/2 and finals MJ, WJ, WE, ME

9:05-9:30 p.m.: Prize Giving Ceremony — UCI BMX World Championships.
