UNION — Things were pretty busy this week for the Union Rotary Club which gained a new president, awarded a $500 scholarship, and heard about chaplain services from a minister and educator.

The weekly meetings of the Union Rotary Club are held each Tuesday in the Covenant Baptist Church Social Hall. This past Tuesday’s meeting saw outgoing Club President Torance Inman pass the gavel and responsibility of leading the club to new President Annie Smith.

Each meeting of the Union Rotary Club features a speaker presented and introduced by a club member and Tuesday’s meeting was no different from the rest.

The speaker for Tuesday’s meeting was provided by Rotary Eddie Wilson who introduced his fellow Rotarians to Dr. Stephen Lemons. Dr. Lemons is the Director of Spiritual Care and Clinical Pastoral Education at Caromont Regional in Gastonia, NC, and is also an Adjunct Professor at USC Union. He has been pastor at Mt. Tabor and Lockhart Presbyterian churches for the past 17 years.

During his address to the Rotarians, Dr. Lemons spoke about the various chaplain services provided at Caromont Regional.

Tuesday’s meeting also saw the club recognizes a Union County High School graduate for academic achievement and provide her with the means to help her continue her education.

Marianna Glenn-Toland is the Union Rotary Club’s Rotary Interact Scholarship recipient. During Tuesday’s meeting she was presented with a check for $500 by Rotarian Mike Cassels who serves at the Interact Club sponsor at UCHS.

Yes, this past week was a busy one for the Union Rotary Club, but that’s how it is when you are an organization that puts service above self.
