UNION COUNTY — Three Dixie Girls teams from Union County — one of them undefeated in the district tournament — will play for the state championships in their respective leagues.

Dixie Girls President Tim Garner announced that the following Union County Dixie Girls teams will be representing the county in state tournament play July 7-12 at the following locations:

• The 6U SweeTees will be playing in Iva.

• The 10U Angels will be playing in Dillon.

• The 15U Belles will be playing in Cheraw.

In addition to representing the county in state competition, Garner said that the Angels are the District 5 X-Play Champions. He said the team won the district championship without losing a single game during the June 22-25 tournament held at Century B Park in Greer.

Garner said the SweeTees and the Belles are going to the state tournament through automatic bids. He said they received automatic bids, because the Union County Dixie Girls program is much larger than the Dixie Girls programs in many other counties. This enabled the Union County program to have more players thus enabling more of its teams to go to state competition under automatic bids.

Even though they are going under automatic bids, Garner said the SweeTees and the Belles also have impressive records for this season. He said they, along with the Angels have been preparing and are continuing to prepare for state competition.
