UNION COUNTY — When it comes to celebrating the Fourth of July the people of Union County can either “Party at the Pond” or “Light Up The Lake” and enjoy lots of red, white, and blue family-friendly fun.
Tuesday, July 4, 2017 is the 241st birthday of the United States of American which declared its independence from the British Empire on July 4, 1776.
Also known as “The Glorious Fourth,” the Fourth of July is celebrated across America in communities of all sizes and that includes Union County where the birthday of the United States will be celebrated Tuesday night in not one but two communities.
Party At The Pond
First off there’s the Buffalo Community which will have its annual “Party at the Pond.” Sponsored by the Buffalo Community Festivals Committee, will begin at 6 p.m. and feature music provided by a DJ as well as vendors selling funnel cakes, BBQ, peanuts, and hot dogs.
Party at the Pond is being sponsored by Midway BBQ, Dairi-O, Andy’s, Gestamp, Becknell’s, Buffalo Fish Camp, Buffalo Pawn Shop, Union County Supervisor Frank Hart, and Union County Councilman David Sinclair.
Anyone interested in being a vendor or sponsor for Party at the Pond should call 864-426-4457. Vendors must pay a $35 fee.
Then, at dark, there will be the part of the evening that no celebration of the Fourth of July can ever be without: the fireworks display.
Light Up The Lake
America’s 241st birthday will also be celebrated in Union at Foster Park Lake with the annual “Light Up The Lake” celebration.
Light Up The Lake will actually begin at 2 p.m. with a Kidz Zone which will be open until 8 p.m. providing children with six hours of fun. Wristbands for the Kidz Zone will be $5 each.
The evening will offer those in attendance food, and a live band performance by “Fantasy” which will take to the stage at 7 p.m.
Of course, the Glorious Fourth would not be complete without fireworks and Light Up The Lake will have them beginning at 10 p.m.
Union County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jami Trammell said the decision was made to move the fireworks display to 10 p.m. in response to complaint that last year’s display was held too early when it was still daylight.
Light Up The Lake is sponsored by the Union County Chamber of Commerce and the Union County Recreation Department while the Kidz Zone will be sponsored by the Union County Tourism Commission.
