UCHS GT Class performs for Music Club

The members of the class who performed included Miss Tyanna Porter, Miss Ivanna Bell, Miss Katie Wagner, Miss Maija Bays, Miss Kayleigh Miller, Miss Aubrey Key, Miss Claire Pridemore, and Miss Shelby Summers.

UNION — The Union Music Club met on May 9, 2017 at Grace United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. President Tommy Bishop welcomed everyone in attendance and announced that the Union County High School (GT) Gifted and Talented Class would be presenting the program for the evening.

First, President Bishop asked the members to recite the Music Club Invocation and the Federation Collect. Then, he introduced the GT Music Director Mr. Tom Mancine, and turned the program over to him.

Performances

For the first selection, Miss Tyanna Porter, Miss Ivanna Bell, Miss Katie Wagner, and Miss Maija Bays sang the song entitled “Eleanor Rigby” written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Then, Miss Tyanna Porter sang the traditional song “Soon I Will Be Done” arranged by Tom Mancine. Next, Miss Kayleigh Miller played a guitar solo entitled “Study No. 7 Opus 60” written by Matteo Carcassi. Then, Miss Aubrey Key sang her own original song entitled “Sunshine.” Miss Ivanna Bell sang the song entitled “The Other Side” composed by Alessia Cara.

The song “Valerie” written by Dave McCabe, Russell Pritchard, Sean Payne, Abi Harding, Paul Molloy, and Boyne Chowdhury was sung by Miss Claire Pridemore. Then, “Mad World” written by Roland Orzabal was sung by Miss Maija Bays. Miss Shelby Summers sang her own original song entitled “Waves.”

Then, the traditional spiritual entitled “There Is a Balm in Gilead” was sung by the entire group. Director Tom Mancine wrote the next song entitled “Colorado,” and it was sung by Miss Tyanna Porter, Miss Maija Bays, and Miss Shelby Summers. Finally, the entire group sang the last song entitled “Someone to Love” written by Freddy Mercury with Miss Kayleigh Miller and Miss Claire Pridemore, soloists.

Awards

At the conclusion of this wonderful performance, Mr. Mancine distributed awards to each of his students.

Best All Round Performer — Miss Maija Bays

Most Improved Vocalist — Miss Ivanna Bell

Most Versatile Performer Grade 12 — Miss Aubrey Key

Most Versatile Performer Grade 12 — Miss Kayleigh Miller

Outstanding Vocalist Grade 10 — Miss Tyanna Porter

Outstanding Vocalist — Alto — Miss Claire Pridemore

Outstanding Vocalist — Soprano — Shelby Summers

Most Versatile Performer Grade 9 — Miss Katherine Wagner

Business

After the evening’s program, the business meeting for the Union Music Club began.

President Bishop welcomed and thanked everyone for the delicious refreshments for the students, guests, and club members.

At this May club meeting, Treasurer Rev. Sanders Read asked for another member on the Scholarship Committee. Mrs. W. J. Whitener was nominated, and Mrs. James Stepp seconded the nomination. Then there was a unanimous vote to add her name to that committee.

Then there was a discussion and motion for the club to allocate funds to pay for an organ scholarship for an interested music student. Mrs. Joe Lawson seconded the motion, and the members unanimously voted to provide funds for this scholarship. President Bishop will provide those lessons.

Treasurer Rev. Sanders Read presented the treasury report. The amount in the Nancy Lewis Wilburn Scholarship fund has increased. Rev. Read asked for an audit committee to audit the club books. Mrs. Nancy Kennedy and Mrs. George Goings will form this committee to audit the books.

There was a discussion of how long to keep records, and the scrapbook committee will consist of Mrs. Nancy Kennedy, Miss Suzy Smith, and Mrs. Joe Lawson.

Secretary Miss Sally Summers read the minutes from the April meeting, and they were approved.

The new club officers were congratulated. They would begin performing the duties of their offices at the end of the May meeting.

Recital

Mrs. Johnny Turner and Mrs. Sanders Read will have a recital for their students at Grace United Methodist Church on Thursday, May 18 at 6 p.m.

Miss Suzy Smith’s students will have a piano recital at USC Union on May 25 at 7 p.m.
