MONARCH — The ability to read and the habit of reading are among the most important fundamentals for getting a good education and one of the fundamentals to gaining that ability and picking up that habit and keeping them is having books to read and students at Monarch Elementary School got to each pick one of those fundamentals courtesy of Dollar General.

In a statement released this week, Monarch Elementary School Principal Mickey Connolly announced that the school’s students had recently enjoyed the opportunity to each choose a book to keep and take home with them as part of the schoolwide Reading is Fundamental book distribution.

The distribution was held in the school cafeteria where the tables were covered with books for the students to look over and choose from. After choosing their books, the students then sat down in the cafeteria and read their selections.

Connolly thanked Dollar General for sponsoring the book giveaway which is held three times a year at MES. He said the students eagerly await each giveaway.
