UNION COUNTY — An athlete who has played both football and baseball and has been a member of a championship team in the latter sport has signed to play for the USC Union Bantams Baseball Team.
Coach Jap Worthy announced this week that Ryan Touchberry of Laurence Manning Academy in Manning had signed Monday to play for the Bantams. Worthy said over the course of his high school career Touchberry has amassed both an impressive athletic record and academic record, making him a good fit for both the Bantams and USC Union. He said that record includes:
• 3-year Varsity player
• 3-year starter
• Played for 3 state championships and was a member of the 2016 State Championship Team.
• 2-time All-Region II Player.
• SCISA All-State Player.
• .340 hitter in 2017
• .375 hitter in the 2017 playoffs
• Member of the FCA
• 3-year member of the football team.
• All-Conference Team in football 2016
Worthy said that Touchberry will be a pitcher and outfielder for the Bantams.
“The strongest part of his game is pitching, and he will help strengthen the pitching staff,” Worthy said.
The Bantams’ full schedule of practices and games for the 2017-2018 school year will get under way in August with the team playing in NJCAA Division I Region 10.
