Spring Tea At The Library

The second annual Spring Tea at the Library will be held at the Union County Carnegie Libary on Saturday, May 13.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Library, Spring Tea at the Library will feature a decorated table viewing and silent auction from 11:50 a.m.-12:50 p.m., and tea time from 1-3 p.m.

Tickets are $12.50.

Union County Band Concerts

The Bands of the Union County School District will perform concerts at the following locations on the following dates at the following times.

Union County High School — Thursday, May 11 at 7 p.m.

Lockhart Elementary/Middle — Tuesday, May 16 at 6 p.m.Pendleton Fundraiser

A fundraiser will be held for Donna Pendleton on Saturday, May 13, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Union Christian Family Life Center.

The fundraiser will include a silent auction, back sale, and yard sale.

All proceeds will go to help Donna battle cancer.

Survival Garden Part II

The Piedmont Physic Garden will offer a workshop called “Creating a Year Round Survival Garden – Part II” lead by Union natives and garden enthusiasts, Tommy Sinclair and Buddy Blackmon. It will be held on Saturday, May 13 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Piedmont Physic Garden located at 301 E. South Street.

This will be the second of a three part series on how to create your own survival garden. Join us and learn how to reap the benefits of a healthy plant-based diet all year long.

American Flag Retirement

Trail Life USA Troop SC-0332 and the West Springs Community Center are conducting an American Flag Retirement on Saturday, May 20 at 6 p.m. at the West Springs Ball Park. The public is invited and urged to attend.

This program will demonstrate one method of properly retiring the American Flag when its condition is no longer suitable for public display.

If the public has American Flags that are too faded or tattered to be flown, Trail Life USA Troop SC-0332 will be delighted to include them in this public retirement ceremony.

Crochet Club

Clemson Extension FCL (Family and Community Leaders) announce the establishment of a Crochet Club that will meet on the first and third Tuesday of each month from 10 a.m.-noon.

This club is open to anyone from the beginner to very experienced. There will be an instructor on site at least once a month. Other experienced crochet workers will be available to help at other times.

Through Our Eyes Reception — Join us on May 11 at 6 p.m. as we honor artists Nanette Jenkins, Elizabeth Winter, Carlton Mullinax, Naoko Goldman, and Sharon Thompson. This exhibit is full of landscapes that celebrate the beauty of nature, Heavenly Landscapes that explore our celestial dreams, and Interior Landscapes that honor love, loss, and hope. Refreshments will be served.

Head Start Accepting Applications

Carolina Community Actions, Inc., Head Start is now accepting applications for children ages 3 and 4 for the 2017-2018 program year.

Head Start serves children from low-income families and children with disabilities. Children with disabilities, including emotional, intellectual and physical (visual, hearing, speech, crippling and other chronic impairments), are eligible regardless of their family income level. Services provided by Head Start include education, nutrition, medical, dental, social services, transportation, parent involvement, and special education services.

We are also now accepting applications for Infants and Toddlers birth to 3 years of age and pregnant mothers for the 2017-2018 program year. Early Head Start Programs begin serving children before they are born by offering services to their pregnant moms. The purpose of this is to ensure that the pregnant woman remains healthy throughout her pregnancy.

CCA Early Head Start/Head Start participates in the USDA Child Care Food Program and breakfast and lunch are served to the Head Start children and formula, breakfast, and lunch are served to the Early Head Start children at no cost to the families. This institution is an equal opportunity provider.

A legal birth certificate, certificate of immunization, proof of income for the 2016 calendar year, and social security numbers of all persons in household must be provided when you apply.

Clemson Club Membership Drive

The Union County Clemson Club is holding a membership drive and is seeking all Clemson fans who are “All In” to join.

Club membership is open to all Clemson fans, alumni and non-alumni alike.

The Union County Clemson Club annually hosts two major events, a kickoff event in August and a chicken roast in November leading up to the annual football game between Clemson and South Carolina.

Each year, two Union County students who will attend Clemson as freshmen receive a scholarship from the club, allowing them to further their education and join the Clemson family.

Annual club dues are $25 which cover all Tigers in the household, with dues supporting the activities of the club, specifically scholarships.

Relay For Life Schedule

The 2017 Union County Relay For Life Team campaign will conclude May 12 at the Union County Fairgrounds. The event will get under way at 6 p.m. with the Survivor Reception followed by the Opening Ceremonies at 7 p.m. The rest of the evening’s activities will continue through the rest of the evening with the Closing Ceremony held at 1 a.m. Saturday, May 13.
