UNION — From Saturday morning until they were largely washed away by Monday’s rain works of art decorated the sidewalks of Main Street in downtown Union.

On Saturday, armed with chalk provided them by the Union County Arts Council, artists of all ages, some working as individuals, others working with family members or as members of a church, business, or civic group, applied their creativity and artistic skills to the sidewalks along part of Main Street.

They did so as part of the 2017 Chalk Walk! hosted by the UCAC and sponsored by the City of Union. The event was an opportunity for the artistically-inclined of all ages to express themselves creatively with chalk using the sidewalk as their canvas. The event was open to artists of all ages who were each given a section of sidewalk and two hours to use it and the chalk provided by the UCAC to be creative with.

At the end of those two hours, a panel of judges examined the results of those creative efforts and selected winners in each of the different categories. First place winners received $25, second place winners $20, and third place winners $15. The cash prizes were provided by the City of Union.
