UNION COUNTY — The Union County High Golf Team enjoyed success on the links Wednesday defeating two other teams.
In a statement released Thursday, Coach Rocky Cooper announced that the Yellow Jackets had defeated the Broome and Newberry golf teams. Cooper said that with Wednesday’s victory the Yellow Jackets improved to 7-2 for the season. He said Sophomore Riley Pittman lead all scorers in the match with a round of 38 and was the medalist for the match.
“I’m very proud of the way our guys have responded to the challenge after our first match of the season,” Cooper said. “They’ve come out every day and worked to improve. While this wasn’t our best match this season as a team, they did what they needed to in order to get the win.”
Cooper added that the team knows it still has room for improvement and is continuing to work to better themselves both as a team and as individual players.
“They know that our new region is full of great teams and we’re still not where we want to be,” he said.
