LOCKHART — The Lockhart Elementary/Middle School Softball Team scored their first victory of the season with a win over Chesnee Thursday night.
In a statement released Friday, Coach Seth Whitehead announced that Lockhart beat Chesnee Middle School 16-14 during the first half of a double-header. He said Thursday’s victory was the first win of the season for the Red Devils and he attributed it to the team’s performance on the field.
Whitehead said that “a key hit that stands out for us was the one by Halle Brannon,” which he said unloaded the bases at the bottom of the first inning. In addition, he said that “Macayla Sinclair pitched the entire game for us, and Alexis Lanier made some great stops as catcher that could have potentially caused trouble for us. Emily Gelske was solid at first base, making two great defensive plays, that was one of the best games she has had defensively.”
Whitehead expressed pride in his team and how they handled themselves during the game, even when it was going against them.
“I was proud of the team as a whole because they stayed positive and engaged in the game, even when we were behind in the score,” Whitehead said.
Lockhart was scheduled to play a home game against Dorman Friday at 5 p.m.
