Rogers said he was proud of the team’s performance, especially given the fact that they were facing more than a thousand other athletes on 40 other teams.

“I told my athletes this is what competition looks like and this is what we should expect going into state qualifiers in May,” Kalan said. “As long as we hit our personal record (PR), or season best (SB) I’m okay with that. That means we are getting better and working hard.

“Overall we had a lot of our athletes hit their PR,” he said. “Ty Jeter came in second in the high jump and hit her PR of 5’0.” Mya Steavens came in seventh in the shot put. Both girls scored some points for us. Shemar Giles hit his PR at 5’10” in the high jump. Coach Moore does a great job with throws and high jump. He teaches them the right techniques to succeed in the meets.”

Rogers said that the team has another big meet Saturday at Eastside High School in Taylors at 9 a.m. where they will face more than 30 other teams including all of the teams from the region. He said the team is hoping to hit its Personal Record.
